A Time for Mourning Past

We're not the most up to date when it comes to TV and DJ's not the most up to date on... well, who's alive and who isn't.  You can imagine the crushed look on his face when I broke the news to him.  I think the fact that the Bernie Mac Show had a solid run before it was over brought DJ some peace.

If you're not familiar with the show, it wasn't bad.  It starred Bernie Mac with his interstingly put together TV family.  The kids on the show aren't his but a relatives and when it became neccesary for a new parental figure to take over he did the deed.  It won't take you long to watch and episode and see the camera go to a moment where Mr. Mac is addressing America, the country itself.

I know some of you are probably thinking "A little late fellas."  but I respectfully disagree.  This comic is a perfect example of how out of the loop DJ is on things like this.  He often refers to actors by their character names.  And by that I don't mean the characters name in the current film he's watching.  He calls them the name of whatever character he saw them play first.  For example.  Arnold Schwarzenegger is now and forever the terminator, no matter what movies he's watching with Arnold.  If you think about this from his perspective it probably makes things much cooler.  Think about when he watches 'Predator'.  In his mind it would be like the Terminator vs. Predator.  Awesome, I know.

Happy Monday,

Continental Miss-Communication

We were lucky enough to have a guest stay with us for a few days last week.  My friend Rodrigo Luff from Australia was visiting San Francisco for an art show he had.  Now, I'm a simple man from small-town Iowa and DJ is a little well more traveled than I am.  What I'm saying is we would be hard pressed to say that we are well cultured in the ways of the world.  Long story short.  We made fun of him because of his accent and that he called ketchup, tomato sauce.  Sorry Rod.  You know I love you buddy.

He's a great dude and we were happy to have him.  You can check out his stuff here.

Confused Genders

We've been enjoying Dragon Age II.  DJ by playing it and myself by watching him and often making comments that he doesn't seem to enjoy as much as I do.  He chose the noble path of the wizard and seems to be quite popular with the men in the game.  Although after I teased him about this enough he went after a few ladies to re-affirm that he was bound by no gender and could lie with whomever he pleased.

Really I'm just waiting for my turn through the game.  I'll take a crack at it once he's finished up.  I'm not sure how close he is to beating it but I know there have been a few occasions where we were certain the game had reached it's end and were soon proven wrong.  DJ's put a good amount of time into it though and really enjoys "wrecking days" with his magical wizardry.

Neckligence

It was around 9:23 on a Thursday morning when I received the distress call.  I was literally about to enter the door to work when I was halted by hearing concerns of horrible neck pains and an inability to get out of bed.  A rescue mission was to be made and I became homeward bound.  He's much better now.   The cause of such a treacherous issue has eluded DJ but we're hoping it doesn't happen again.

Eugene

With Wonder Con this past weekend and oh so many other things, we didn't have enough time to get together a comic this week.  But we'll never not put something up.  It will probably be a LOL CAT some Monday but until then I took this time to introduce Eugene.

Eugene here is 9.  He's a big fan of things like geology, books about stars, the library, and dinosaurs.  It's an unfortunate day for him however.  His favorite balloon has lost all of it's air.  It was red.  His favorite color is red.  Hang in there Eugene.  Good things are in your future big guy.

Good Morning,
-Zach

P.S.  A big thank you to everyone who stopped by DJ's booth at Wonder Con.  He was there selling prints of his work and I think he even had a few Get Job stickers for a day or so.  Big thanks to everyone for all the support and all the new people he met.  He told me he had a blast.

A Welcomed Return?

Dennis is on vacation.  I think he said something about a ski trip.  We're not sure when he's coming back, although I imagine it's sometime soon.  Hope you're having a good trip Big D.

I often find myself feeling guilty at the way we portray poor ol' Dennis.  Or I should say more-so how he's talked about "in strip" but he's a stellar man and a good roommate.  It can't be easy being a roommate with us either.  It's like always being in the same place where a secret club meets but you're not a part of it.  Mostly because it's a bad club filled with ridiculous questions and arguments over whether or not one of it's members is psychic.  It's a safe guess that anyone in his position looking at us would want nothing to do with such madness but he somehow  puts up with it.

Spider-Man: Leave the Light Off

This musical was already around 25 million in debt early 2009, costs around a million dollars a week to run and has been delayed six times.  There is a serious dedication to making sure a musical tail of Spider-Man is told.  We certainly don't understand why but I think we've proven several times already that there are a lot of things we don't understand.

You'll notice we went with the four panel comic instead of our classic three.  Breaking boundaries here on Get Job.  We're not even afraid to class it up a little.

Good Morning,

Cat Calling Calamity

Something DJ experienced during his quick trip to Seattle.   He probably gets cat called all the time.  Going through airports, walking down the street, that sort of thing.

Recently we've undergone testing DJ's psychic prowess.  After an extended conversation about whether or not  he is developing psychic powers we settled on putting it to the test.  Being the scientists that we are, we have set up a system where i pick a series of numbers between 1 and 5 and he proceeds to use his "psychic abilities" to guess them.  The results aren't leaning in his favor yet but there's plenty of testing to be done.  We'll post results soon.

It was the Breast of Times...

We probably don't exploit the ability to draw boobs enough.  I can't actually think of a time we have drawn boobs... Bummer.  Clearly, we are wasting our talents.

In case you were curious, we didn't end up seeing "Never Say Never."  We saw "Cedar Rapids" instead and I feel good about the decision.   If you haven't had the chance to see it, check it out.  It was a great comedy about an insurance salesman in the mid west.  The setting was spot on and definitely reminded me of home.  I was worried that was the reason I liked it so much but thankfully DJ was also a big fan. A good flick for sure.

Workin' for that weekend,

DJ's Birthday Wish

DJ turns the big 23 today and the probability of this actually happening is much higher than acceptable.  Anything for his birthday.  There is only one a year after all.  On a side note I do find it interesting that they are doing a re-release of the Justin Bieber movie (which is also available in 3D for those of you that had your fingers crossed) as a directors cut version.  Something like 40 minutes of new footage being swapped out with old footage.  I'm not exactly sure on the details.  I guess it's a good way to keep the Bieb cash train a rollin'.

DJ will also be up in Seattle at the Emerald City Comic Con from March 4th through the 6th selling prints of his work and representing Get Job so be sure to stop by his booth and say hi.  I think we even have a few stickers left to hand out.

Happy Birthday DJ,
-Zach

Presidents' Day PunchOut

Because we all want it to happen.  The Founding Father vs. the Savior of the Union.  Both total heroes of American history and let's face it, they could probably both throw down in the ring.  When that bell would ring, a fury of physical and verbal strategery would be flying around that four sided cage of excitement.  Best President's Day main event ever.

Happy Presidents Day,
-Zach

Valentines Dance Dilemma!

At first we were having a hard time coming up with a Valentines Day comic.  Neither of us have any sort of crazy experiences from this holiday to really pull from and we had to put in some serious effort to not make it homoerotic.  Thankfully, after the idea of doing a mid 80's to early 90's movie trailer like those used for good vibe, buddy movies and romantic comedies was brought up it was a clear choice.  And really, I think we'll jump at any opportunity to use these new characters, Zach McFly and the Fresh DJ of Bel-Air.  I can assure you they'll make another appearance.  I don't know when or how long it's will take to think of a reasonable situation for this but it's going to happen.

Some big news this Monday.  Get Job has partnered up with the website, Awesome Robo!.  It's a great site that will be featuring our comic every Monday as well as several other really great pictures, videos and articles throughout the week.  Be sure to check them out! We are really excited to be featured on such a great site.

Also for those of you who don't know, we've got a sweet Facebook page that we update every Monday to remind you when a new comic is posted. It also keeps you up to date on any other Get Job related news we might have.  You can either go to it here and like us or you can like us from here on the upper left side of the blog!

Happy Valentines Day,
-Zach

Raising the Stakes

I remember going to my friends house over lunch at school to see this game.  The most common occurrence involved one of us getting about halfway though the level and then getting killed.  Either by some devious monster hiding in a shadowed corner or by another player brought into our level with plans of destruction and making us lose all of our precious collected souls.  Either way frustration set in and the prospect of redoing a bunch of work wasn't appealing.  It's kind of weird that  the frustration and the difficulty of the game played such a big part of why it was so fun and addicting.  I'm curious what kind of horrible punishment they have planned for dying with their sequel coming up.

Have a happy Monday,
-Zach

PIllow Talk

Our late night conversations range from a multitude of subjects from different career paths to ideas about what the universe is up to while we aren't looking but they almost always end with DJ bringing up the fact that I have to get up early and he doesn't.  It's always been this way.  He doesn't like to get up early.  He doesn't like to get up at all really.

As you can see in the comic above we've got a sweet set up with DJ's loft bed and my Murphy bed.  I've never had a bed that comes out of the wall before but I have to say that I'm a fan.  It's a really convenient way to save space and open up an area for whatever activities that one might like to do that requires floor space.  We mostly just sit in chairs.

Have a good week!

Decaffeinated

DJ can't drink most things.  Caffeine makes his heart go crazy.  There was a short period of time where doctors were involved.  It's OK though, he just doesn't like things that adults drink.  But, clearly he does enjoy himself some ninja unicorns.  You'll also notice a not so subtle tribute to the double rainbow.  He's a big fan.  How can you not be?  I was made a big fan again after I watched him discover the video a good three months after everyone else.  It was like watching someone rediscover the fun of a toy you just couldn't remember the reason for wanting in the first place.  He's a champion.

Good morning Monday,

A Sticky Situation

DJ has returned triumphantly from Sacramento.  He had a booth at the Sac Anime convention and was selling prints and giving out free Get Job stickers.  Results of his venture can be witnessed here.  Also, if you're not sure what stickers i'm referring to, that information can be found here.

It was pretty quiet in the apartment while DJ was gone so when he got back, naturally a flood of conversation occurred.  Recently the idea of a leak-causing liquid and the scenarios that could follow such an element were discussed for an extended amount of time.  Don't worry.  I won't go into it, mostly for your sake.

Eventually we got on the talk of game of the year.  It was really great to see a few awards go to smaller games like Minecraft and Limbo.  Games that didn't have millions of dollars poured into them.  Games that had a lot of heart and are designed on really unique, interesting, and most importantly, fun ideas.  That being said, Red Dead Redemption took game of the year with a lot of websites and with us.  All around great game and the best thing we played that came out of 2010.

See you next week!

Grown Up Problems

It's a new year now and along with it came a lot of changes for DJ and myself.  I just finished up at the atelier and DJ is in his last semester of college.  We're slowly becoming real life, responsible adults.  Now that we're heading into grown-upville we're also trying to make something of ourselves.  I guess what I am trying to say in that middle panel is that we're just trying to figure out the right steps to take.  It can sort of be tricky.  Some of you might remember where this conversation started here.

DJ was busy in Sacramento all weekend with a booth at the Sac Anime convention.  He was there selling prints and handing out some free stickers.  He even called to tell me someone recognized him from the comic. I guess our first official fan encounter has happened.  WOOH!

Happy Monday!

The Birds and the Bush

In case you aren't sure what commercial we are talking about in the comic here's a link.  After we heard that play a few times questions started to arise.

Ever since TV turned to digital channels instead of whatever it used to be our TV no longer works for, you know, TV shows.  Thankfully, Hulu is there for us to get some of our TV show needs.  An even bigger plus is that there are still commercials and I'm kind of only half joking when I say that.  Anyway we really still don't know what the saying means.  I have ideas but I haven't discussed it with anyone to find out if I'm even close.  Maybe when DJ makes his return to San Francisco I'll pass it by him.

I hope everyone had a good entrance into to 2011 and all of your resolutions have been made.

Happy Monday
-Zach

A Holiday’s Demise

Sorry for the late post everyone. Zach found himself with no internet, stranded in Iowa. I hope
everyone had a great time with their families and friends over the holidays!
